Investigating the Feasibility of Master Tung’s point for dysmenorrhoea

A recent study found that Tung’s “Huo Zhu” point may help relieve primary dysmenorrhea. This study involved 60 participants. The patients were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group randomly, with 30 patients in each group. The controlled group was given sham acupuncture, and the other group was treated using the Huo Zhu point with “Tiao Qi Technique”. The pain level of dysmenorrhea patients was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS)pain scores and scored by the Cox Menstrual Symptom Scale (CMSS).

Both groups were treated once before each menstrual period (within three days) and once on the first and second menstruation day. One menstrual cycle was considered a course of treatment for a total of 3 courses of treatment.

After the first menstrual cycle, both groups’ VAS scores did not change significantly; the observation group’s VAS scores were significantly lower than those of the control group after two and three menstrual cycles. The total frequency and severity scores of CMSS in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group after 2 and 3 menstrual cycles.
